Dr. Erna Risch – Army Quartermaster Foundation, Inc.

Dr. Risch served as the Chief Historian for the Office of the Quartermaster General (OQMG) from World War II until 1962; then she served as the Chief Historian for Army Materiel Command. Dr. Risch’s extraordinary professional accomplishments speak for themselves. She directed the OQMG Historical Office through the documentation of the wide range of Quartermaster activities during World War II, writing numerous volumes herself.  Later, she produced the monumental work Quartermaster Support of the Army, (1775-1939), which still serves as the basis for historical remembrance within the Quartermaster branch. Her last work Supplying Washington’s Army, came after her retirement as a result of her dedication to Quartermaster history. Her work is remarkable for both quantity and quality. Under her direction, the OQMG monographs were noteworthy for their broad grasp of the subjects, clarity of presentation, and meticulous accuracy. These efforts are the principal basis for the Quartermaster history and heritage programs today.
